A world class Blend in the Bordeaux tradition. The Merlot offers up black fruit aromas such as black cherry and blackberry, all with wonderful freshness on the palate. The Cabernet Sauvignon, in particular from old pre-phylloxera vines, offers up aromas of red fruit (raspberry) and black fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry) with some ripe bell pepper and black olive notes. As it matures it develops pepper, crème de cassis, leather and charred notes (smoke, toast and chocolate). The Carmenère, brightly coloured with hints of purple, is rich with rounded tannins. There are delicate cherry aromas on the nose, subtly balanced out by spicy touches of black pepper. Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo is a premium Japanese sake that is highly regarded for its exceptional quality and complex flavor profile. It is produced by the Asahi Shuzo Brewery, located in the Yamaguchi Prefecture of Japan, using only the finest rice and water. Junmai refers to sake that is made purely from rice, water, yeast, and koji (a type of fungus that converts starch to sugar). Daiginjo is a classification of sake that indicates it is made from highly polished rice (at least 50% of the outer layer of the rice grain is removed) and fermented at low temperatures for an extended period of time. Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo is made using Yamada Nishiki rice, which is considered one of the best sake rice varieties in Japan. The first harvest took place in 1252. For more than 750 years, therefore, Château Pape Clément has been producing fine wines on the same terroir. At this time, it was called Domaine de la Mothe.Following a painful episode of hail in 1937, which damaged the vineyard, the land was bought in 1939 by the agricultural engineer Paul Montagne, who signalled the rebirth of the estate by replanting the vines and renovating the cellars. As early as 1953, successful vintages flourished again, but once again, from 1975 onwards, a lack of investment detracted from quality for a period of around ten years.
At the turn of the 1980s, Bernard Magrez, a passionate wine entrepreneur, took the reins at the Château and was to give this grand cru classé an unprecedented international aura. Thanks to hard work, constant questioning, the alliance of tradition and innovation and a remarkable terroir, Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves continues each year to amaze wine lovers with a quality exceptional.
