Founded in the 1540’s, the Tomita Brewery is one of the oldest breweries in Japan and is now managed by the 15th generation of the family, Yasunobu Tomita, who is also the brewmaster. The Tomita’s named their sake Shichi Hon Yari, or “Seven Spearsmen,” after the leaders of the historic Battle of Shizugatake which was fought just outside their town of Kinomoto. Shichi Hon Yari Junmai is the classic representation of the brewery’s style with its traditional and modern dimensions. Earthy and rich aromatics and flavors meet elegance and softness in the finish. The bright acidity makes this a fun sake to pair with dishes outside of traditional Japanese cuisine, including Duck a l’orange and Yukhoe, Korean Steak Tartare. -

Chateau La Gordonne La Chapelle Gordonne Tete de Cuvee Rose has a litchee-pink colour, very pale and limpid. It aromas has notes of pink grapefruit and linden blossom notes reveal this wine’s very rich mineral quality in a poetic evocation of the sun rising over the Provence Garrigue on a summer day. On the palate the wine is ample and balanced around sensations of freshness, delicacy and sweetness. It is bursting with small fresh fruits such as the arbutus berries on the wooded hillsides of the schist terroir of the Château la Gordonne. The long, pleasant finale expresses the finesse and flavour of a wild strawberry sorbet. -

Izumo Fuji Junmai Ancient Shrine is made with Yamada Nishiki rice grown in Shimane prefecture. The brewery is located in the town of Izumo, home to one of Japan’s oldest and most revered Shinto shrines. Izumo Fuji Junmai Ancient Shrine has violet aroma, plum on palate; soft, relaxed, and expansive in texture. An “umami type” of sake with ricey dryness. Serve chilled, room temperature or warmed. Versatile but best with rich foods like Japanese stews, grilled steak, and briny shellfish. -

Diego Pressenda La Torricella Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2019 has a ruby red color. It has a rich and intense flavor of fresh fruit. In the mouth it is juicy, with a delicate acidity, velvety with interesting vanilla nuances. Soft and flexible wine that reflects the typical character of Barbera grapes. Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. As part of the ripasso technique, the wine is 'passed over' dried grapes to contribute depth and character. Ripasso styles, such as this one, can therefore offer the best of both worlds: notes of ripe red cherry and underbrush (that you often find with Valpolicella), alongside those of spice and chocolate (often found with Amarone). This wine is full-bodied with velvety tannins, aged in barrels and cement vats before spending three further months in bottle prior to release. This rich Ripasso would complement a variety of Italian dishes, from grilled and roasted meats to risotto with porcini mushrooms. -
Pinot Noir is the rising star of Marlborough and the variety that most expresses the differences from season to season. Grown on the southern hills in clay soils, this Pinot is well rounded with oh-so juicy flavours of cherry and black Doris plum. The Jansz Premium NV Rosé is based upon Jansz wines of several vintages. Specially selected and crafted individual batches from cool climate locations in Tasmania, form this wine. Every site used to source grapes is specifically designated to growing fruit for sparkling wine. All batches are kept separate during winemaking to maximise blending options and the complexity of the final wines. The wine then goes through secondary fermentation in bottles and is aged on yeast lees for as long as possible with the average age of the final blend being 18 months to two years. -

Patty Green and Jim Anderson started Patricia Green Cellars in 2000 after walking away from a very successful winery that they had built up since its inception in 1993. As karma would have it they were offered the opportunity, out of almost nowhere, to purchase a winery and vineyard that were located in the area that would become to be known as the Ribbon Ridge AVA. The winery was built on the idea that there were great vineyards in Oregon that could produce uniquely excellent wines if people dedicated themselves to the farming and winemaking necessary to do so. Over many vintages that ideal expanded as experience was gained, the winery grew and the sophistication of the vision adapted to the times. The 2021 vintage is an unusual one where the high heat neither translated into dark nor high alcohol wines. Wines are particularly red fruited, ripe, supple and delicious at early ages in this vintage. Perfect for a bottling that values consumption at a youthful age.Winemaker notes:
