Chateau La Gorce Medoc 2019

By |December 6, 2023|Categories: , , , |

Château La Gorce is an organically farmed Left Bank Bordeaux estate, classified as a Cru Bourgeois. The château is located in the Médoc appellation, the furthest north appellation in Bordeaux, a few miles north of St. Estèphe. Sandwiched between the Gironde river and the Atlantic ocean, with gravel, clay and limestone soils, Médoc wines are concentrated and savoury.

The Cru Bourgeois classification is a well-respected, long-standing classification for Left Bank Bordeaux wines, usually made from a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cru Bourgeois châteaux are typically considered one qualitative step below their Grand Cru Classé neighbors, but are well known for their exceptional value, frequently producing very affordable wines that can nonetheless easily improve for 15-20 years. The Cru Bourgeois classification is made every five years, and is based on a blind tasting by a professional panel as well as other criteria, ensuring quality.

La Gorce is a delicious, satisfying Bordeaux, rich yet dry, ripe but savory. It will appeal to lovers of classic Bordeaux and other French red wines.

Bertani Valpolicella Ripasso 2020

By |December 9, 2023|Categories: , , |

Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. As part of the ripasso technique, the wine is 'passed over' dried grapes to contribute depth and character. Ripasso styles, such as this one, can therefore offer the best of both worlds: notes of ripe red cherry and underbrush (that you often find with Valpolicella), alongside those of spice and chocolate (often found with Amarone). This wine is full-bodied with velvety tannins, aged in barrels and cement vats before spending three further months in bottle prior to release. This rich Ripasso would complement a variety of Italian dishes, from grilled and roasted meats to risotto with porcini mushrooms.

Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Rosso Veronese 2020

By |December 9, 2023|Categories: , , |

Palazzo della Torre is one of the wines that has made Allegrini famous internationally, as it was the precursor of the double fermentation method: most of the grapes are vinified at harvest, while the remaining part is left to partially dry (appassimento). In January the wine is blended with the raisinated grapes, and a second fermentation begins. It then ages in second use French oak barriques for 15 months. A blend of Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese, this is an elegant, harmonious wine with considerable structure. Expect notes of vanilla, black pepper and cloves, with gentle nuances of raisined grapes. The palate is velvety, with soft tannins and a long and persistent finish.

Domaine Antonin Guyon Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2017

By |December 9, 2023|Categories: , , , |

Domaine Antonin Guyon Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2017 offers an exceptional range of Burgundies, mostly in the premier crus and the grand crus of the region. Corton is unique as it is the Côte de Beaune's only red grand cru appellation. This wine has a generous nose of juicy black fruit, cherries in particular. The palate is rich and full-bodied, offering vanilla, licorice, and an oak-spiciness from 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new. The concentration and broad tannin structure of this wine means it will continue to develop for the next 20 years. An excellent pairing for roasted meat, game, and most cheeses.

Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal 2015

By |December 12, 2023|Categories: , , , |

Vintage: Champagne Cristal 2015 relies on essence of its terroir, originating from vineyard plots under cultivation since 1845, following sustainable viticultural practices. This vintage reflects a distinctive identity deeply entrenched in the land, yet aspiring towards celestial heights. Winemaking: In the crafting of Cristal 2015, 25% of the wine undergoes oak aging, while the prevention of malolactic fermentation is deliberate to safeguard the fruit's luminous, fresh, and pure characteristics. The wine undergoes a six to seven-year sur lattes aging period, followed by an additional six to twelve months of post-disgorgement maturation. Tasting Notes: Cristal 2015 is a Champagne that engages the palate with its complexity and finesse. Its aromatic profile reveals nuances of yellow fruit, toasted almonds, and wheat from the Chardonnay, seamlessly integrated with the Pinot Noir's succulent red fruit notes. On the palate, the acidity is invigorating, evolving into a delicate tactile sensation, offering a silky texture with notes of candied citrus, spices and a salty mineral long finish. Food Pairing: Cristal 2015's exceptional equilibrium and finesse make it an ideal companion for a diverse array of foods. It harmonizes brilliantly with delicate seafood, such as oysters or sushi, accentuating its crisp freshness. Its silky texture complements dishes featuring creamy textures, such as lobster bisque or chicken in creamy sauces. For a contrast of flavors, savor it alongside aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano, which accentuates its depth and complexity.
