Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2012

By |July 17, 2024|Categories: , , |

Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. Grapes are dried in traditional drying rooms, where they rest on racks for 99 days before the winemaking process begins. An intense red color with hints of garnet, this wine offers succulent red plums and morello cherries on the nose, as well as notes of tea leaves, licorice, and spices. The Bertani Amarone has been described as “larger than life.” This power is balanced by elegance on the dry palate, which showcases red berries sweetened by soft notes of spices. Eight years of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels in conjunction with one further year of ageing in bottle have further contributed to this wine’s complexity. This wine can be easily matched with red meat, game and mature cheese, but is also perfect as a vino da meditazione – a meditation wine.

Bertani Valpolicella Ripasso 2020

By |December 9, 2023|Categories: , , |

Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. As part of the ripasso technique, the wine is 'passed over' dried grapes to contribute depth and character. Ripasso styles, such as this one, can therefore offer the best of both worlds: notes of ripe red cherry and underbrush (that you often find with Valpolicella), alongside those of spice and chocolate (often found with Amarone). This wine is full-bodied with velvety tannins, aged in barrels and cement vats before spending three further months in bottle prior to release. This rich Ripasso would complement a variety of Italian dishes, from grilled and roasted meats to risotto with porcini mushrooms.

Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso 2020

By |July 3, 2024|Categories: , , , , |Tags: , |

Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso 2020 "Testamatta," meaning "crazy-head" in Italian, perfectly reflects the creative and passionate nature of winemaker Bibi Graetz. This Supertuscan wine highlights the purity, minerality, and transparency of Sangiovese from old vines. The grapes for the 2020 vintage are hand-picked and undergo rigorous selection in both the vineyard and winery. Fermentation is done with natural and indigenous yeasts in open-top barriques for smaller parcels and larger casks or stainless steel tanks for larger plots, with frequent manual punch-downs and pump-overs. After 7-10 days of maceration, the wine is aged for 20 months in old barriques and 50hl casks. Expect a fresh and vibrant nose with aromas of strawberries and Amarena cherries, complemented by hints of vanilla. On the palate, you'll find complex flavors of balsamic, earth, and tobacco, with high, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity that carry the flavors to a very long finish. This vintage has received exceptional acclaim, earning 96 points from The Independent and 95 points from Robert Parker. Borgogno No Name is made from estate fruit from three of Barolo’s top Crus, and declassified in protest by one of the greatest Barolo producers of all time. “I have chosen one of my best wine and I called it No Name as a quiet protest against the bureaucracy that afflicts Italian agriculture and the wine world.” Made with 100% Nebbiolo, the wine was aged in oak barrels for at least three years and in bottle for at least two years. Intense garnet red color with orange rim. Ethereal, persistent, perfumed. Dry, with velvety tannins, ageworthy.

About Borgogno

Founded in 1761, Borgogno is the oldest continuously operating winery in Barolo. Today, the estate includes 39 hectares with 31 planted to vine. These include five hectares of Timorasso and rows in some of Barolo’s most storied vineyards including Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole. Ca’ del Bosco Franciacorta Cuvee Prestige 46a Edizione

By |September 21, 2021|Categories: , , , , |

Born in 1976 with the name of Franciacorta Pinot, this wine marks our initial foray into the world of Franciacortas. In 1991, with the name Franciacorta Brut N.V., it takes on an increasingly recognizable style, more expressive of its terroir. In 2005, after more than 30 years of experimentation and dedication, it matures into Cuvée Prestige and acquires its own well-defined identity. Following a constant reduction in the liqueur added at disgorging, in order to exalt the characteristics of the grapes, with the 2017 harvest it adds Edizione to its name, allowing the gustatory memory to precisely identify the various nuances of each interpretation.

Ca’ del Bosco Franciacorta Vintage Collection Saten 2018

By |January 18, 2024|Categories: , , , , |

Introduced in 1978 with the name Crémant, it is a special interpretation of a Franciacorta made only with Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco. In 1990 its name was changed to Franciacorta Vintage Satèn. Since the 2008 vintage, Ca' del Bosco has decided to reinterpret Dosage Zéro, Satèn and Brut, and to give them a distinctive appellation as well: "Vintage Collection". An elegant narrative of our extraordinary territory and of man’s ability to bring out the vines’ inherent potential.

Castello di Perno Barolo Castelletto DOCG 2017

By |May 16, 2022|Categories: , , , , |

The Barolo Castelletto is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the upper parts of the Castelletto cru in Monforte d’Alba. Castelletto is a cool, east-facing cru facing the famous Vigna Rionda cru of Serralunga d’Alba, separated only by a small stream at the bottom of the valley.
Very delicate aromas on the nose, with concentrated fruit on the palate and an elegant style. There is more depth and power here than in the regular Barolo.
The 2017 vintage was challenging for many in the region due to heat and drought. However, wine critic Walter Speller has noted on JancisRobinson.com: ‘it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to be the absolute star in this vintage. Tasting its wines was like changing gears, going from a sluggish it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to walk to a brisk pace. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. The Castelletto cru, until now still flying a little under the radar, delivered a number of delicious wines

Castello di Perno Barolo DOCG 2019

By |January 3, 2024|Categories: , , , , |

Castello di Perno is an up-and-coming estate in Piedmont of which wine lovers will be hearing a lot more in years to come. The wines are made by one of the region’s top winemakers, Gian Luca Colombo, and the style is described as "neoclassical" by Nick Jackson MW; not a traditionalist, not a modernist producer, but a new classic style of Barolo.  The 2019 vintage of Castello di Perno is 100% Nebbiolo, aged for 24 months in Austrian oak casks and 12 months in bottle. Expect aromas of dried flowers, truffles and cranberries. The balanced palate has high tight-grained tannins and complex earthy and herbal notes, with an elegant long finish. We had the honor of hosting Castello di Perno at 305 Wines and tasted a range of their wines. All highly recommended.
