Tatenokawa Three Peaks Junmai Daiginjo

By |March 20, 2024|Categories: , , , |

Tatenokawa was the first Sake Brewery in Yamagata who decided to brew exclusively Junmai Daiginjo class sake, and hope to continue to do so while providing their high quality merchandise at an affordable price. Nearly all of the rice they use to brew is locally grown Miyama Nishiki and Dewasansan. In 2014, ANA International picked this sake for their First Class and Business Class sake. Using the locally grown Dewasansan sake rice and only native Yamagata Kobo, Tatenokawa achieves an elegant sake with surprising complexity and energy. Relatively high acidity with a grapefruit peel-like aroma and flavor. Just the right amount of sweetness offers balance and leads every sip into a refreshing finish.

Appassionata Allegro Pinot Noir 2019

By |September 14, 2023|Categories: , , , , |

The opening tier of Appassionata Pinot Noir bears the name of the Piano Sonata’s first movement, Allegro, which is the musical pace of a brisk walk. This cuvée is a selection of barrels that show a precocious liveliness and expressivity that will drink well as a youthful wine, but is built for aging. It is bottled after 18 to 20 months in barrel, and released three years after the vintage. The Allegro Pinot Noir beautifully displays the beginnings of bottle maturation, and will age gracefully for many years.

Poggio di Sotto Rosso di Montalcino 2017

By |November 8, 2022|Categories: , , , |

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 93 points: "The Poggio di Sotto 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is a terrific wine and one of a handful of Rossi that I can recommend for longer cellar aging. This Rosso is built like a Brunello and shows the qualities needed to further its evolution. In this 20,000-bottle release, those attributes include complexity, freshness and a solid, mid-weight structure. You hardly feel the heat of the vintage, save for those hints of extra richness and concentration that add to the wine's important and pleasurable mouthfeel. This is a terrific Rosso with the long-term perspective of its big brother Brunello."

Konteki Sake Pack

By |September 5, 2024|Categories: , , , , , |

Compare and contrast these 2 delicious sakes, one made as Junmai Daiginjo the other as Daiginjo that was brewed in the same way with the same ingredients as Pearls of Simplicity but with a touch of distilled alcohol to open up aromatics and lighten the overall impact. Konteki means “dew drops of the earth” while Higashiyama (the brewery name) translates to “eastern hill.“ Brewery workers have been known to start their days watching the sun rise over the mountains until the dew drops glisten as if they were the Tears of Dawn. Kampala!!!

Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo Sake

By |July 25, 2019|Categories: , , , , |

Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo is a premium Japanese sake that is highly regarded for its exceptional quality and complex flavor profile. It is produced by the Asahi Shuzo Brewery, located in the Yamaguchi Prefecture of Japan, using only the finest rice and water. Junmai refers to sake that is made purely from rice, water, yeast, and koji (a type of fungus that converts starch to sugar). Daiginjo is a classification of sake that indicates it is made from highly polished rice (at least 50% of the outer layer of the rice grain is removed) and fermented at low temperatures for an extended period of time. Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo is made using Yamada Nishiki rice, which is considered one of the best sake rice varieties in Japan. It has a polished ratio of 23%, meaning that 77% of the outer layer of the rice grain has been removed. This allows for a pure and delicate flavor profile with a subtle sweetness and floral aroma. Overall, Dassai 23 Junmai Daiginjo is a highly sought-after sake that is often served as a special occasion drink or as a gift to those who appreciate fine sake.

Castello di Perno Barolo Castelletto DOCG 2017

By |May 16, 2022|Categories: , , , , |

The Barolo Castelletto is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the upper parts of the Castelletto cru in Monforte d’Alba. Castelletto is a cool, east-facing cru facing the famous Vigna Rionda cru of Serralunga d’Alba, separated only by a small stream at the bottom of the valley.
Very delicate aromas on the nose, with concentrated fruit on the palate and an elegant style. There is more depth and power here than in the regular Barolo.
The 2017 vintage was challenging for many in the region due to heat and drought. However, wine critic Walter Speller has noted on JancisRobinson.com: ‘it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to be the absolute star in this vintage. Tasting its wines was like changing gears, going from a sluggish it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to walk to a brisk pace. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. The Castelletto cru, until now still flying a little under the radar, delivered a number of delicious wines

About the producer

Bodegas y Vinedos Pintia 2019

By |April 9, 2021|Categories: , , , |

Pintia lies on the banks of the Douro River, within the Toro D.O. region. The extremely cold winters and hot summers influence its complex soils, which are mainly known for their significant pebble content. This means that finding the perfect harvest period is key to ensure the wine conserves both its fresh aromas and acidity.
