  • For centuries, the Schioppettino grapes were cultivated in Friulli-Venezia Giulia, in Italy. In the middle of the 19th century, with the advent of phylloxera, Schioppettino was almost completely destroyed. In 1970, Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi founded the winery Ronchi di Cialla and managed to find about 60 surviving vines of Schioppettino. They made new cuttings and managed, in the space of 2 years, to create a first wine estate of 3,500 vines that marked the rebirth of the Schioppettino. In the words of Nick Jackson MW: "Schioppettino is a paradoxical variety: intensely aromatic, medium-bodied, with a mere 12-12.5% alcohol, high acidity and a lingering, perfumed finish, it is also, in spite of its lightness, capable of very long aging." The 2017 vintage is made with 100% Schioppettino grapes, aged in French oak barriques for 14-18 months and in bottles for 30-36 months. According to the producer the wine has capacity to age and develop in the next 20-23 years. So buy 2 bottles: one to drink now and another one for aging! Ronchi Di Cialla Schioppettino Di Cialla 2017 has a balanced ruby red color with bright reflections. It has aromas of  white pepper and small red fruits, currants and blackberries, intriguing balsamic and undergrowth (sous-bois) notes.
  • Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2019 has a brilliant color with an attractive black cherry hue. On the nose the wine is complex and very elegant. Aromas of red and black fruits with balsamic and toasted notes, such as vanilla and liquorice. On the palate it is full, rich and lingering in mouth with silky, enveloping tannins. Fruit flavours come through well and are very well-integrated with the oak.
  • Chateau de Sales Pomerol 2008 has a dark red with a slightly brickish hue, the wine reveals a refined, fruit-forward nose. The elegant, fruit-filled and well-structured palate is sustained by silky tannins, leading into a highly refined finish.

Borgogno No Name is made from estate fruit from three of Barolo’s top Crus, and declassified in protest by one of the greatest Barolo producers of all time. “I have chosen one of my best wine and I called it No Name as a quiet protest against the bureaucracy that afflicts Italian agriculture and the wine world.” Made with 100% Nebbiolo, the wine was aged in oak barrels for at least three years and in bottle for at least two years. Intense garnet red color with orange rim. Ethereal, persistent, perfumed. Dry, with velvety tannins, ageworthy.

    About Borgogno

Founded in 1761, Borgogno is the oldest continuously operating winery in Barolo. Cesare Borgogno expanded the winery’s production in the 1920s and commercial success followed as he became one of the first winemakers from Piedmont to ship wines abroad. Today, the estate includes 39 hectares with 31 planted to vine. These include five hectares of Timorasso and rows in some of Barolo’s most storied vineyards including Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole. Made with long maceration times and minimal intervention, the wines are renowned for their traditional style and long-term aging potential, a favorite of Italian wine professionals and collectors.
  • While originally conceived of as a value wine, Les Terrasses has slowly evolved into Álvaro’s statement of what makes Priorat special. Drawing on 15+ years of study, Terrasses is sourced from many of the region’s steepest and oldest vineyards—many of them north-facing to avoid the intense afternoon sun. Today, Les Terrasses is today perhaps the single finest introduction to Priorat in the marketplace.
