Ferreira Vintage Port 2016

By |June 4, 2021|Categories: , , , |Tags: , |

Ferreira Vintages are unique and exceptional Portos, at the pinnacle of excellence. With over 250 years of this tradition for excellence, Ferreira has one of the Porto sector's top cellars for vintage Portos, with wines dating back to 1815. This Vintage shows an intense, almost black colour. The aroma reveals great complexity and intensity with dried black fruits, such as plums and figs. This wine reveals balsamic notes of heather as well as hints of liquorice, cocoa and chocolate, thanks to its excellent maturation. Dense on the palate, with great volume, it has a well-integrated acidity that frames notes of milk chocolate and sour cherry. It's finish is one of great length, freshness and balance in the true Ferreira style.

Fonseca Vintage Port 2017

By |June 7, 2021|Categories: , , , |Tags: , |

Fonseca Vintage Ports are released only when a year produces outstanding wines with long term ageing potential. These classic Vintage Ports are a blend of wines from Cruzeiro, Santo António and Panascal.  Although they can be enjoyed when young, Fonseca Vintage Ports will continue to improve in bottle for many decades. Fonseca Vintage Port 2017 has a narrow magenta ring around a core of inky purple black. The nose opens with a burst of dark, woodland fruit, dense and succulent, blended with fresher, more vibrant red berry aromas. A slatey minerality holds this exuberant fruitiness in check. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic scents and cedary notes of sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of tightly packed, dense dark berry fruit, which then explodes on the mid-palate and surges into the long finish. The texture is round and velvety but the taut, sinewy tannins and a strand of crisp acidity provide firmness and structure. The layered, complex fruit typical of Fonseca holds sway over this weighty, powerful wine. RP 98

Gonzalez Byass Alfonso Dry Oloroso 375ml

By |January 29, 2022|Categories: , , , , |Tags: , |

González Byass was created in 1835 by Manuel Maria González and remains in family hands today, now in the fifth and sixth generation.  Founded in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, in the heart of Sherry country, it is dedicated to the production of high quality sherries. The Sherry triangle, made up of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlucar de Barrameda, has a unique microclimate influenced by the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and Guadalquivir and Guadalete rivers. Production is dominated by the Palomino variety, and vines are planted in the white Albariza soil, with high chalk content which is excellent for retaining moisture.  These soil conditions, combined with over 3,000 hours of annual sunshine, fresh, humid breezes from the west (poniente) and warm, dry breezes from the east (levante) have formed the perfect marriage with the Palomino variety to produce an array of sherry styles.

All sherries are aged following the traditional Solera system where the wines are blended in 600 litre American oak casks. Many styles are produced with distinctive characters depending on whether they have been aged under the influence of the flor (a layer of natural yeast) or as an oloroso (in contact with oxygen). Golden amber color, dry, with lemon rind, hazelnut husk, toasted sesame and green tea notes mixed together

Graham's Late Bottled Vintage 2017 is matured in wood for five years prior to being bottled ready for drinking. The Graham’s 2017 can be enjoyed anytime and pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts as well as semi-cured and cured cheeses like Cheddar and Manchego. On the nose it has a lovely honeysuckle fragrance as well as hints of mint, along with bright, attractive tropical fruit notes in the background. On the palate it has notes of ripe black fruit combining with hints of kirsch. The fine-grained tannins give the wine balance and structure, whilst good acidity underscores the wine’s freshness.

100% PALOMINO

Manzanilla Papirusa

Aged following a biological ageing, under a veil of yeast called “flor” in the cool, humid, salty air of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a fishing town on the estuary of the Guadalquivir river. Bright yellow colour with golden reflections. This Manzanilla is laced with sea breeze scents and pleasant chamomile and flor aromas. Bone dry and light, fresh and crisp, with a hint of sea salt on the palate. Delicate and refreshingly acid with a lingering aftertaste. Papirusa means “elegant and beautiful”. It was the name of the doll that Emilio Lustau gave the daughter of Joaquín Burgos, first manager of Bodegas Lustau in the ’40s.

Bone dry and light, fresh and crisp, with a hint of sea salt on the palate.
