An icon in the region, the Allegrini family has been a pivotal part of Valpolicella’s history since the 16th century. This long winemaking tradition, combined with grapes of exceptional quality (all Allegrini wines are produced from estate-grown fruit), has led to the brand’s success and sterling reputation. The controlled drying (appassimento) of the harvested grapes, which lasts for around three to four months, brings intense aromas of undergrowth and dark fruits, such as cherries and blackberry jam. An hour in the decanter would allow this wine to further unfurl and reveal its beautiful bouquet, which also includes notes of dried violets, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Intense flavors, silky-smooth tannins, and a long, dry finish feature on the powerful palate, which is balanced by the elegance and finesse of a cooler vintage. Traditionally enjoyed with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses. This style of wine makes an excellent match for hearty dishes. Their distinctive flavor compliments exotic sweet and sour cuisine and is therefore also perfect with Asian and middle eastern dishes. -
Palazzo della Torre is one of the wines that has made Allegrini famous internationally, as it was the precursor of the double fermentation method: most of the grapes are vinified at harvest, while the remaining part is left to partially dry (appassimento). In January the wine is blended with the raisinated grapes, and a second fermentation begins. It then ages in second use French oak barriques for 15 months. A blend of Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese, this is an elegant, harmonious wine with considerable structure. Expect notes of vanilla, black pepper and cloves, with gentle nuances of raisined grapes. The palate is velvety, with soft tannins and a long and persistent finish. -

Intensely ruby red in color, Tignanello 2020 has exceptional aromatic complexity: notes of ripe red fruit especially cherries, strawberries and blackberries are accompanied by delicate floral hints of violets, mallow blossoms and roses. Its bouquet is completed by notes of roasted coffee and cocoa powder. The vibrant entry gives way to a caressing layered mouthfeel. The wine closes with spicy notes of pepper and licorice that merge with pleasant sensations of aromatic herbs for a fresh, lengthy finish.
Aging took place in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage, for a total of 15 months: after an initial period of aging the lots separately, they were blended then completed barrel aging. Tignanello, made primarily with Sangiovese and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, underwent an additional 12-month period of aging in the bottle before being released. -

Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is a rich and elegant Brunello, both in structure and in olfactory expression. Brilliant ruby red with garnet-colored reflections, on the nose the aroma is sweet and fruity, the hints of fresh red fruit stand out, which combine perfectly with the more complex notes of licorice and pipe tobacco. The structure is powerful, and the palate is pleasantly enveloped by a consistent tannic texture, well balanced by a pleasant acidity. Extremely persistent with excellent aging potential. Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. Grapes are dried in traditional drying rooms, where they rest on racks for 99 days before the winemaking process begins. An intense red color with hints of garnet, this wine offers succulent red plums and morello cherries on the nose, as well as notes of tea leaves, licorice, and spices. The Bertani Amarone has been described as “larger than life.” This power is balanced by elegance on the dry palate, which showcases red berries sweetened by soft notes of spices. Eight years of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels in conjunction with one further year of ageing in bottle have further contributed to this wine’s complexity. This wine can be easily matched with red meat, game and mature cheese, but is also perfect as a vino da meditazione – a meditation wine. -

They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. As part of the ripasso technique, the wine is 'passed over' dried grapes to contribute depth and character. Ripasso styles, such as this one, can therefore offer the best of both worlds: notes of ripe red cherry and underbrush (that you often find with Valpolicella), alongside those of spice and chocolate (often found with Amarone). This wine is full-bodied with velvety tannins, aged in barrels and cement vats before spending three further months in bottle prior to release. This rich Ripasso would complement a variety of Italian dishes, from grilled and roasted meats to risotto with porcini mushrooms. -

Born in 1976 with the name of Franciacorta Pinot, this wine marks our initial foray into the world of Franciacortas. In 1991, with the name Franciacorta Brut N.V., it takes on an increasingly recognizable style, more expressive of its terroir. In 2005, after more than 30 years of experimentation and dedication, it matures into Cuvée Prestige and acquires its own well-defined identity. Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is a high-quality red wine produced in the Montalcino region of Tuscany, Italy. The Barolo Castelletto is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the upper parts of the Castelletto cru in Monforte d’Alba. Castelletto is a cool, east-facing cru facing the famous Vigna Rionda cru of Serralunga d’Alba, separated only by a small stream at the bottom of the valley.The 2017 vintage was challenging for many in the region due to heat and drought. However, wine critic Walter Speller has noted on JancisRobinson.com: ‘it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to be the absolute star in this vintage. Tasting its wines was like changing gears, going from a sluggish it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to walk to a brisk pace. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. The Castelletto cru, until now still flying a little under the radar, delivered a number of delicious wines’Very delicate aromas on the nose, with concentrated fruit on the palate and an elegant style. Castello di Perno is an important, up and coming estate in Piedmont of which wine lovers will be hearing a lot more in years to come. The brain child of Milanese lawyer Gregorio Gitti, Castello di Perno was founded in 2012 and owns 14 hectares (35 acres) of vineyard in the Monforte d’Alba, Nizza and Alta Langha regions, all farmed organically.
The castello in question sits at the summit of the tiny village of Perno, and houses Signor Gitti’s extensive collection of contemporary art. The wines are made by one of the region’s top winemaking consultants, Gian Luca Colombo.

Castello di Perno is an up-and-coming estate in Piedmont of which wine lovers will be hearing a lot more in years to come. The wines are made by one of the region’s top winemakers, Gian Luca Colombo, and the style is described as "neoclassical" by Nick Jackson MW; not a traditionalist, not a modernist producer, but a new classic style of Barolo. The 2019 vintage of Castello di Perno is 100% Nebbiolo, aged for 24 months in Austrian oak casks and 12 months in bottle. Expect aromas of dried flowers, truffles and cranberries. The balanced palate has high tight-grained tannins and complex earthy and herbal notes, with an elegant long finish. We had the honor of hosting Castello di Perno at 305 Wines and tasted a range of their wines. All highly recommended. -
Barolo Perno Riserva, it is the first and only one Barolo Riserva from Castello di Perno, a small parcel of 0.3 hectares in the CRU Perno always located in Monforte d'Alba which is producing only a total of 1100 bottles every year. This parcel is the oldest in Perno called "vigna della Croce". The vineyards have been planted in 1940 and the Nebbiolo is 100% Michet clone (not always easy to find 100% pure Michet in a single vineyard) and the vineyards are in front of Bricco Rocche in Castiglione Falletto, thanks to this influence of mineral soil between limestone and sand, the beautiful exposition and the good altitude of 430 meters we obtain a Barolo with a plenty of elegance, freshness and aromaticity. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. Castello di Perno has a vineyard plot in the cru of Perno. With its almost 200 ha (494 acres) Perno is pushing the 'cru' concept a little, but the Castello di Perno plot, sitting on the crest of the hill, truly stands out. From it in 2017 a fantastic, vibrant Barolo with crunchy red fruit has been produced -

School friends Giambattista Cilia (C), Giusto Occhipinti (O) and Pinuccia Strano (S) began making wine for pleasure and ended up creating a company that would become one of the most well-known in Sicilia. They rented their parents’ lands and began harvesting, pressing grapes, and making wine. They continue to operate with this independence of spirit, doing largely without an oenologist and basing winemaking decisions on their considerable experience and intuition. COS is a lifelong project of expressing the terroir, passion, and culture of this part of Sicily in its truest form. -

In the mouth it is juicy, with a delicate acidity, velvety with interesting vanilla nuances. Soft and flexible wine that reflects the typical character of Barbera grapes. Full-bodied with perceptible alcohol, but very well balanced thanks to its velvety tannins and fresh acidity. It goes well with various dishes such as pasta or red meat. -

The fruit is sourced from the following crus: Bricco Ambrogio (Roddi village), Roere di Santa Maria (La Morra), Bussia (Monforte d’Alba). The emphasis on Roddi and La Morra help explain the airy style of the wine, a lighter style than wines coming from the villages of Barolo or Serralunga, for example. Gian Luca explains about the 2018 vintage, a relatively cool year: a vintage that gave us wines that are really charming and approachable when young; the wines are already expressive, fruity, aromatic and tannins smooth and soft.
