Cantine Bertani has been making wines in the Veneto region of Italy for more than 150 years. They have consistently strived to combine tradition and research to create wines of uncompromising quality with a distinct identity. Grapes are dried in traditional drying rooms, where they rest on racks for 99 days before the winemaking process begins. An intense red color with hints of garnet, this wine offers succulent red plums and morello cherries on the nose, as well as notes of tea leaves, licorice, and spices. The Bertani Amarone has been described as “larger than life.” This power is balanced by elegance on the dry palate, which showcases red berries sweetened by soft notes of spices. Eight years of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels in conjunction with one further year of ageing in bottle have further contributed to this wine’s complexity. This wine can be easily matched with red meat, game and mature cheese, but is also perfect as a vino da meditazione – a meditation wine. -
Briccolina was the pioneer vineyard for our biodynamic approach and is now the only Barolo cru granted with the Demeter certification. It is a vineyard-garden, entirely worked by hand. It undergoes very long macerations during vinification. -

Barolo Perno Riserva, it is the first and only one Barolo Riserva from Castello di Perno, a small parcel of 0.3 hectares in the CRU Perno always located in Monforte d'Alba which is producing only a total of 1100 bottles every year. This parcel is the oldest in Perno called "vigna della Croce". The vineyards have been planted in 1940 and the Nebbiolo is 100% Michet clone (not always easy to find 100% pure Michet in a single vineyard) and the vineyards are in front of Bricco Rocche in Castiglione Falletto, thanks to this influence of mineral soil between limestone and sand, the beautiful exposition and the good altitude of 430 meters we obtain a Barolo with a plenty of elegance, freshness and aromaticity. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. Castello di Perno has a vineyard plot in the cru of Perno. With its almost 200 ha (494 acres) Perno is pushing the 'cru' concept a little, but the Castello di Perno plot, sitting on the crest of the hill, truly stands out. The 2014 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a stunning wine. Sweet, perfumed and deep, the 2014 is off-the-charts great. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, mint, lavender, spice and hard candy infuse the 2014 with striking layers of nuance. But what really impresses about the 2014 is its depth and huge vertical build. All the elements fall into place in a sumptuous, deep Barolo that screams with character. Beams of tannin punctuate the finish. Massolino's 2014 is one of the greatest Vigna Riondas I have ever tasted. (AG) 98+ About the producer The Massolino family has deep roots in the Langhe. Great-grandfather Giovanni Massolino founded the winery in 1896 and was the first to bring electricity and a steam-operated machine for harvesting grain to Serralunga d’Alba. Grandfather Giuseppe was one of the founders of the local winegrowers’ consortium in 1934 and father Giovanni bought the first single vineyard, Parafada. Today, the estate is run by siblings Franco, Roberto and Paola. -
The fruit is sourced from the following crus: Bricco Ambrogio (Roddi village), Roere di Santa Maria (La Morra), Bussia (Monforte d’Alba). The emphasis on Roddi and La Morra help explain the airy style of the wine, a lighter style than wines coming from the villages of Barolo or Serralunga, for example. Gian Luca explains about the 2018 vintage, a relatively cool year: a vintage that gave us wines that are really charming and approachable when young; the wines are already expressive, fruity, aromatic and tannins smooth and soft.

An icon in the region, the Allegrini family has been a pivotal part of Valpolicella’s history since the 16th century. This long winemaking tradition, combined with grapes of exceptional quality (all Allegrini wines are produced from estate-grown fruit), has led to the brand’s success and sterling reputation. The controlled drying (appassimento) of the harvested grapes, which lasts for around three to four months, brings intense aromas of undergrowth and dark fruits, such as cherries and blackberry jam. An hour in the decanter would allow this wine to further unfurl and reveal its beautiful bouquet, which also includes notes of dried violets, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Intense flavors, silky-smooth tannins, and a long, dry finish feature on the powerful palate, which is balanced by the elegance and finesse of a cooler vintage. Traditionally enjoyed with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses. This style of wine makes an excellent match for hearty dishes. Their distinctive flavor compliments exotic sweet and sour cuisine and is therefore also perfect with Asian and middle eastern dishes. -
The Barolo Castelletto is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the upper parts of the Castelletto cru in Monforte d’Alba. Castelletto is a cool, east-facing cru facing the famous Vigna Rionda cru of Serralunga d’Alba, separated only by a small stream at the bottom of the valley.The 2017 vintage was challenging for many in the region due to heat and drought. However, wine critic Walter Speller has noted on JancisRobinson.com: ‘it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to be the absolute star in this vintage. Tasting its wines was like changing gears, going from a sluggish it is Monforte d'Alba that has turned out to walk to a brisk pace. The wines show generous, juicy fruit with a proper tannic core and plenty of the energy that is in short supply in 2017. The Castelletto cru, until now still flying a little under the radar, delivered a number of delicious wines’Very delicate aromas on the nose, with concentrated fruit on the palate and an elegant style. Castello di Perno is an important, up and coming estate in Piedmont of which wine lovers will be hearing a lot more in years to come. The brain child of Milanese lawyer Gregorio Gitti, Castello di Perno was founded in 2012 and owns 14 hectares (35 acres) of vineyard in the Monforte d’Alba, Nizza and Alta Langha regions, all farmed organically.
The castello in question sits at the summit of the tiny village of Perno, and houses Signor Gitti’s extensive collection of contemporary art. The wines are made by one of the region’s top winemaking consultants, Gian Luca Colombo.

The Uccelliera estate is located in the warm southern Castelnuovo dell’Abate part of the Montalcino zone. The vineyards range from 150 to 350 meters above sea level. Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is aged 24 months in a mix of French and Slavonian oak. The wine has aromas of black cherries, plums, and walnuts with undertones of cedar. The palate is dense and full-bodied, with rich tannins, and a complex finish. -
For centuries, the Schioppettino grapes were cultivated in Friulli-Venezia Giulia, in Italy. In the middle of the 19th century, with the advent of phylloxera, Schioppettino was almost completely destroyed. In 1970, Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi founded the winery Ronchi di Cialla and managed to find about 60 surviving vines of Schioppettino. They made new cuttings and managed, in the space of 2 years, to create a first wine estate of 3,500 vines that marked the rebirth of the Schioppettino. In the words of Nick Jackson MW: "Schioppettino is a paradoxical variety: intensely aromatic, medium-bodied, with a mere 12-12.5% alcohol, high acidity and a lingering, perfumed finish, it is also, in spite of its lightness, capable of very long aging." The 2017 vintage is made with 100% Schioppettino grapes, aged in French oak barriques for 14-18 months and in bottles for 30-36 months. According to the producer the wine has capacity to age and develop in the next 20-23 years. So buy 2 bottles: one to drink now and another one for aging! Ronchi Di Cialla Schioppettino Di Cialla 2017 has a balanced ruby red color with bright reflections. It has aromas of white pepper and small red fruits, currants and blackberries, intriguing balsamic and undergrowth (sous-bois) notes. -

Born in 1976 with the name of Franciacorta Pinot, this wine marks our initial foray into the world of Franciacortas. In 1991, with the name Franciacorta Brut N.V., it takes on an increasingly recognizable style, more expressive of its terroir. In 2005, after more than 30 years of experimentation and dedication, it matures into Cuvée Prestige and acquires its own well-defined identity. Following a constant reduction in the liqueur added at disgorging, in order to exalt the characteristics of the grapes, with the 2017 harvest it adds Edizione to its name, allowing the gustatory memory to precisely identify the various nuances of each interpretation. -
