    Chateau Montrose 2020

Original price was: $239.99.Current price is: $211.97.

    Chateau Montrose 2020

The result of rigorous selection at each stage of production, in both the vineyard and the winery, this great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé, with time it develops a delicate and complex bouquet. The wines have considerable ageing potential and are exceptionally long-lived. Matured for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels, the premium wine accounts from 35 to 40% of the total production of Château Montrose.

    Wine Advocate - 100 points

"Surpassing the 2019 and rivaling the 2016 as this estate's finest vintage of the last few decades, the 2020 Montrose is a monument in the making. Wafting from the glass with aromas of violets, dark berries, licorice, loamy soil, black truffle and subtle spices, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless, elegantly muscular profile, terrific purity and energy, beautifully powdery tannins and a long, resonant finish. It checks in at 13.7% alcohol, the same as the superb 2009, but it is even deeper, more vibrant and more complex than the 2009. This will be worth a special effort to seek out and only confirms Montrose's status as one of the contemporary Médoc's leading estates and a de facto first growth."

    About Chateau Montrose

Château Montrose, a prestigious wine estate situated in the renowned St. Estéphe appellation, is widely recognized as one of the region's premier properties. It stands as a producer of remarkable wines known for their exceptional longevity within the Médoc. From 1962 until 2006, Montrose was under the ownership of Jean-Louis Charmolue before being acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, distinguished proprietors of the eponymous construction firm Bouygues. Montrose's wines are carefully crafted using a blend primarily composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Following meticulous production, the wines mature for 18 months in oak barriques, with approximately 30% of the barrels being new. Traditionally, Montrose wines exhibit a profound color, austere character, and impressive power in their youth. However, they possess the extraordinary ability to age gracefully, embodying the quintessential characteristics of St. Estèphe clarets once fully matured. Classified as a 2ème Cru Classé, Château Montrose continues to exemplify excellence in winemaking and stands as a benchmark for the appellation.

Chateau Montrose La Dame de Montrose 2020

Original price was: $59.99.Current price is: $48.97.

    Allocated and rare product

Made to the same rigorous standards as the First Wine, from grapes grown in the same vineyard, La Dame de Montrose is the estate’s second label. Supple and silky Merlot generally predominates in the varietal mix. Its very pronounced red fruit aromas and flavours reflect another expression of the terroir in a distinctive style which is less elaborately complex than that of the First Wine.
Consistently reliable and reaching maturity sooner, the wine was created in 1983 in tribute to Yvonne Charmolüe, who ran Château Montrose single-handedly from 1944 to 1960. Production varies from one year to another but accounts on average for 40 à 45% of the total production of the Montrose vineyard. Aged for 12 months in 30% new french oak barrels.

Robert Parker - 98 points: "Technical Director/Chief Winemaker Philippe Dhalluin said this was a special year for him, because he considers it his first great vintage—he started in 2004. Deep garnet with hint of brick, the 2005 Mouton Rothschild is evolving into unabashed, flamboyant notes of Christmas cake, plum preserves, chocolate-covered cherries, eucalyptus and crème de cassis with beautifully fragrant wafts of potpourri, incense, Indian spices and cigar box. Full-bodied, the palate performs vinous pirouettes with dazzling exotic spice, floral and earthy nuances, framed by firm, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long and mineral laced."

Original price was: $139.99.Current price is: $109.97.
Chateau Pape Clement 2019 has a Purple purplish color with fruity, elegant and offers power aromas. It reveals notes of boysenberry, fleshy strawberry and slight notes of blackcurrant associated with slight touches of violet, iris, purple plum, blackberry. On the palate the wine has notes of boysenberry, fleshy blackcurrant and slight hints of strawberry associated with small touches of flowers, chocolate, toast and very fine hints of hazelnut.

94 points - Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"The 2019 Pape Clément has turned out well in bottle, delivering a rich bouquet of cherries, blackcurrants, plum liqueur and blackberries mingled with notions of burning embers, licorice and a nicely integrated framing of new oak. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's a layered, fleshy wine, with a deep core of ripe but lively fruit, plenty of powdery tannin and a long, expansive, discreetly heady finish. This is a powerful, dramatic Pessac with a transatlantic accent and will drink well with only a few years' bottle age." (WK)

    About Chateau Pape Clement

The first harvest took place in 1252. For more than 750 years, therefore, Château Pape Clément has been producing fine wines on the same terroir. At this time, it was called Domaine de la Mothe.

Following a painful episode of hail in 1937, which damaged the vineyard, the land was bought in 1939 by the agricultural engineer Paul Montagne, who signalled the rebirth of the estate by replanting the vines and renovating the cellars. As early as 1953, successful vintages flourished again, but once again, from 1975 onwards, a lack of investment detracted from quality for a period of around ten years.

At the turn of the 1980s, Bernard Magrez, a passionate wine entrepreneur, took the reins at the Château and was to give this grand cru classé an unprecedented international aura. Thanks to hard work, constant questioning, the alliance of tradition and innovation and a remarkable terroir, Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves continues each year to amaze wine lovers with a quality exceptional.
