Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir: Two Grapes Everyone's Talking About

Aug 26, 2026

Alessandra Esteves

Two grapes have dominated conversation among our customers lately: Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Both are incredibly versatile, both have passionate followings, and both come in a huge range of styles depending on where they're grown. Here's a closer look at each, along with what we currently have in stock.

Where is Sauvignon Blanc grown, and what does it taste like?

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most widely planted white grapes in the world, and its character shifts dramatically with climate. In cooler regions it turns racy and aromatic, while in warmer sites it becomes rounder and more textured.

Sancerre, in France's Loire Valley, remains one of the most sought-after expressions of the grape. It's known for elevated acidity, mineral character, and a lean, precise style that pairs beautifully with fresh seafood. Marlborough, New Zealand produces a more overtly fruit-forward style, often with notes of citrus and fresh-cut grass. California and Bordeaux offer their own takes, ranging from crisp and unoaked to fuller-bodied styles with a touch of oak aging.

Where is Pinot Noir grown, and what does it taste like?

Pinot Noir is famously difficult to grow but rewarding when it's done well. It's thin-skinned and sensitive to climate, which is exactly why it expresses terroir so clearly. Burgundy remains the grape's spiritual home, producing wines with fine tannins, red fruit, and earthy complexity that can range from village-level bottlings to Grand Cru sites.

Oregon's Willamette Valley has become one of the most exciting Pinot Noir regions outside of France, with a cool climate that produces wines with bright acidity and a similar sense of place. California's Russian River Valley and Santa Barbara County, along with New Zealand and Argentina's Patagonia, have all developed their own distinct styles.

What pairs well with Sauvignon Blanc?

Sauvignon Blanc's bright acidity makes it a natural match for fresh, light dishes. Think stone crab, ceviche, grilled shrimp, or a simple salad with citrus vinaigrette. The grassier, more herbaceous styles also work well alongside dishes with fresh herbs like cilantro or basil.

What pairs well with Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir's lighter body and soft tannins make it one of the most food-friendly red wines available. It works with roasted chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom-based dishes, and even a lighter cut of pork. On a Florida table, it's a great match for grilled fish that wants a red wine without heavy tannins getting in the way.
