Trénel Beaujolais Blanc 2021 offers an interesting perspective on Beaujolais, a region far better known for Gamay than Chardonnay.
The fruit comes from two sites in southern Beaujolais: one on the limestone-rich soils of Pierres Dorées and another on granite near Montmelas. Fermentation and aging in stainless steel preserve the purity of the Chardonnay while time on the fine lees contributes additional texture.
White peach and ripe apricot lead the aromatic profile, joined by lemon, white flowers and subtle mineral notes. With several years of bottle age, the wine can also begin to show hints of almond and a broader, more developed texture while retaining its underlying freshness.
There is an appealing contrast here between ripe stone fruit and the tension provided by the limestone and granite soils. It is a useful Chardonnay for customers who enjoy Burgundy but want to explore a less familiar expression of the grape at a more accessible price.
Food Pairing: Pair with grilled or roasted fish, shrimp, scallops, roast chicken, creamy pasta, mushroom dishes, goat cheese, Brie or Camembert.
Serve around 50–54°F.
