Tiberio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2023 is a pure expression of Montepulciano from Abruzzo, made with a focus on freshness, fruit and the natural character of the variety rather than oak influence.
Black cherry, sour cherry and blackberry are joined by violet, dried herbs, licorice and subtle spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with juicy acidity, ripe dark fruit and firm but balanced tannins, followed by a savory, mineral finish.
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and aging in stainless steel keep the wine focused on the fruit and preserve its freshness, while the naturally structured character of Montepulciano gives it enough depth to work well at the table.
I like this wine because it shows that Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can have both concentration and energy. There is plenty of ripe fruit, but the acidity, herbal notes and mineral character keep it from feeling heavy or overly simple.
Food Pairing: Pair with pasta with meat sauce, pizza, grilled sausages, roast pork, lamb, braised beef, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
Serve around 58–62°F.
