R. López de Heredia Viña Bosconia Reserva 2014 is a traditional Rioja from one of the region's historic producers, sourced from the Viña Bosconia vineyard in Haro and based predominantly on Tempranillo with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo.

After extended aging in American oak and further time in bottle before release, the wine shows the combination of maturity and freshness that defines classic López de Heredia. Red cherry, raspberry and plum are joined by dried herbs, tobacco, leather, cedar and subtle earthy notes. The palate is savory and layered, with lively acidity, fine tannins and a long finish marked by red fruit, spice and developed tertiary character.

What I particularly enjoy about Bosconia is that its maturity does not come at the expense of freshness. The wine is already showing considerable complexity, but its structure suggests that well-stored bottles can continue to develop.

Food Pairing: Pair with roast lamb, grilled pork, beef, duck, braised meats, mushroom dishes, Spanish charcuterie, Manchego, aged sheep's-milk cheeses, or traditional Rioja-style stews.

Serve around 60–64°F. A short decant can help remove sediment, but avoid excessive aeration so the mature aromatics remain intact.
