Penner-Ash Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2022 brings together fruit from vineyards across several sub-regions of the Willamette Valley, creating a Pinot Noir that reflects the freshness, aromatic character and layered texture associated with Oregon.

Raspberry, red cherry and wild strawberry are joined by blood orange, dried flowers, tea leaf and subtle baking spice. The palate is medium-bodied and polished, with bright acidity, silky tannins and a savory character that develops through the long, spicy finish.

Ten months of aging in French oak, with a relatively small proportion of new barrels, adds texture and subtle spice without taking attention away from the Pinot Noir or its fresh red-fruit character.

I like the balance of the 2022. The fruit is generous and immediately appealing, but there is also enough acidity, fine tannin and savory complexity to give the wine definition. It is a very good introduction to the polished style of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and has enough structure to continue developing over the next several years.

Food Pairing: Pair with roast chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, roasted vegetables, charcuterie, or soft cheeses.

Serve around 58–62°F. If drinking now, give the wine approximately 20–30 minutes in a large glass or decanter.
