Moric Blaufränkisch Burgenland 2023 is an expressive Austrian red from Burgenland, produced from Blaufränkisch grown in vineyards including Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg.

The wine shows dark cherry, blackberry and forest berries, followed by black pepper, clove, licorice and subtle earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied and energetic, with fresh acidity, fine tannins and a savory mineral character that keeps the fruit focused.

Roland Velich’s approach emphasizes the variety rather than oak or extraction. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and aging in large used wooden vessels preserve the freshness, spice and tension that make Blaufränkisch distinctive.

This is an excellent introduction to serious Austrian red wine: structured enough for the table, but still vibrant and easy to drink.

Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, grilled pork, lamb, sausages, mushroom dishes, lentils, roasted vegetables, or aged hard cheeses.

Serve slightly cool, around 56–60°F.
