Kopke Vintage Port 1997 offers the opportunity to experience a mature Vintage Port after nearly three decades of bottle development.
The fruit has evolved from its youthful intensity toward dried black cherry, plum and blackberry, accompanied by dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted coffee, herbs and subtle toffee notes. The palate is rich and sweet, but age has softened the tannins and brought greater harmony to the wine, with a long, warming finish.
At this stage of maturity, the appeal comes from complexity rather than sheer power. The combination of dried fruit, chocolate, spice and developed tertiary character makes the 1997 particularly suited to slow drinking after dinner.
Because Vintage Port is bottled with sediment, stand the bottle upright before serving and decant carefully.
Food Pairing: Pair with Stilton or other blue cheeses, aged cheddar, dark chocolate desserts, chocolate truffles, walnuts, roasted nuts, or simply enjoy on its own after dinner.
Serve around 60–64°F.
