Kongsgaard Chardonnay 2023 is a benchmark Napa Valley Chardonnay that combines concentration, texture and a pronounced mineral character.
The wine opens with lemon confit, tangerine peel and ripe apple, followed by white flowers, subtle honey, toasted nuts and gentle spice. The palate is broad and layered, but the richness is balanced by freshness and a distinctly saline, mineral finish.
What I particularly appreciate about Kongsgaard is the way the wine combines California depth with a more restrained, structured profile. It has the weight and texture expected from a serious Napa Chardonnay, yet the acidity and mineral character prevent it from feeling heavy.
This is a Chardonnay that can be enjoyed now for its richness and texture, but it also has the structure to develop further with bottle age.
Food Pairing: Pair with lobster, scallops, roasted halibut, salmon, roast chicken, veal, mushroom dishes, creamy risotto, or aged Comté and other firm cheeses.
Serve around 50–55°F. Avoid serving it too cold, as a slightly warmer temperature will reveal more of its texture and aromatic complexity.
