Jean-Luc Burguet Échezeaux Grand Cru 2023 is a rare Grand Cru Pinot Noir from one of the most celebrated vineyard areas of the Côte de Nuits, combining the perfume and finesse associated with Vosne-Romanée with greater depth and structure.
Ripe red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry are joined by rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon, cedar and subtle earthy notes. The palate is concentrated yet refined, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a long, layered finish.
The grapes are fully destemmed and fermented with native yeasts before barrel aging. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, allowing the fruit and character of the vineyard to remain as transparent as possible.
What stands out to me is the balance between power and texture. There is real concentration and depth here, but the tannins remain polished and the aromatic character is remarkably lifted. The 2023 is still very young and will benefit considerably from additional bottle age.
Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, beef tenderloin, venison, game birds, truffle dishes, mushroom preparations, or mature soft cheeses.
Serve around 58–62°F. If opened young, decant carefully for approximately 45–60 minutes, although I would ideally give this wine several more years in bottle.
