Domaine Pierre Guillemot Corton Grand Cru Le Rognet et Corton 2023 comes from the Ladoix side of the Hill of Corton, where iron-rich red clay soils give Pinot Noir both depth and structure.
Dark cherry, raspberry and wild berries are joined by violet, licorice, spice and subtle earthy notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with firm but refined tannins, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish.
The wine is fully destemmed and fermented with native yeasts before aging primarily in used barrels, with only a small proportion of new oak. This keeps the focus on the fruit, texture and character of the vineyard rather than on oak.
What I like here is the combination of power and restraint. This is clearly a serious Corton, with more concentration and tannin than the domaine’s Savigny-lès-Beaune wines, but the 2023 still retains freshness and precision. It is expressive enough to understand today, although I would ideally give it several more years in bottle before opening.
Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, beef tenderloin, venison, lamb, game birds, mushroom dishes, truffle preparations, or mature soft cheeses.
Serve around 58–62°F. If drinking young, decant for approximately 45–60 minutes.
