Clos de Tart Monopole Grand Cru 2020 comes from one of Burgundy’s most historic walled vineyards, a Grand Cru monopole in Morey-Saint-Denis planted entirely to Pinot Noir.

Black cherry, wild raspberry and dark berries are joined by violet, rose petal, orange peel, exotic spice and subtle earthy notes. The palate is concentrated and layered, with fine but substantial tannins, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish.

Partial whole-cluster fermentation adds aromatic lift and structure, while aging in French oak brings additional spice and texture. Despite the concentration of the warm 2020 vintage, the wine retains remarkable freshness and precision.

What stands out to me is the combination of power and refinement. There is tremendous depth here, but the tannins are polished and the floral and mineral character keep the wine from feeling heavy. It is already impressive, although this is clearly a wine built for long-term cellaring.

Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, beef tenderloin, venison, game birds, truffle dishes, mushroom preparations, or mature soft cheeses.

Serve around 58–62°F. If drinking young, decant carefully for approximately one hour, although I would ideally give this wine several more years in bottle.
