Château Haut-Sarpe is a Grand Cru Classé estate owned by the Janoueix family since 1930, sitting just 500 meters from the medieval town of Saint-Émilion on clay-limestone soils. The 2019 is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, fermented in cement vats and aged 12 months in French oak — and marks a period of clearly elevated quality at the estate since 2018. Scored 93 points by both James Suckling and Robert Parker.
Medium-bodied and bright with red fruits, crushed stone, and polished tannins. The 2019 vintage in Saint-Émilion was warm and generous, giving the wine lovely ripeness without sacrificing freshness. Vibrant, silky, and drinking well now with room to evolve through 2037.
Pair with duck confit, roasted lamb, or mushroom-based pasta.
