Château Gazin Pomerol 2008 is a mature Right Bank Bordeaux built predominantly around Merlot, with small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc adding structure and aromatic complexity.

Black plum, blackcurrant and dark cherry are joined by licorice, mocha, tobacco, dried herbs and subtle earthy notes. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with softened but still present tannins, fresh acidity and a long savory finish.

The high proportion of Merlot gives the wine its richness and rounded texture, while the Cabernet varieties bring additional structure and freshness. After more than fifteen years in bottle, the fruit has begun to move toward more complex tertiary notes of earth, tobacco and spice.

I like the way the 2008 is showing now. It still has plenty of depth and dark fruit, but the tannins have integrated and the more mature savory character of Pomerol is becoming increasingly expressive.

Food Pairing: Pair with beef tenderloin, braised short ribs, lamb, duck, mushroom dishes, truffle preparations, or aged cheeses.

Serve around 60–64°F. Stand the bottle upright before serving and decant carefully for approximately 30–45 minutes, tasting first to judge how much air it needs.
