Château d’Armailhac 2019 is a Fifth Growth Pauillac from an excellent Bordeaux vintage, produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Petit Verdot.
Blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry lead the aromatic profile, followed by violet, cedar, graphite, licorice and gentle spice. The palate has the structure expected from Pauillac, but the tannins are polished and finely textured, giving the wine a surprisingly supple feel beneath its dark fruit.
Cabernet Sauvignon provides the backbone and classic cassis character, while the relatively generous proportion of Merlot adds flesh and roundness through the mid-palate. Cabernet Franc contributes floral lift and additional aromatic complexity.
The 2019 combines concentration with freshness particularly well. It is already beginning to show beautifully with some air, but there is enough structure and balance for continued development in the cellar.
Food Pairing: Pair with roast lamb, ribeye, beef tenderloin, duck breast, braised short ribs, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
Serve around 60–64°F. If drinking now, decant for approximately 45–60 minutes.
