Louis Roederer Brut Nature Rosé 2018 by Philippe Starck comes from the Cumières hillside in Champagne and is made without dosage, giving the wine a particularly direct expression of the vintage and terroir.
Red berries, blood orange and citrus are joined by violet, subtle spice and light smoky notes. The palate is concentrated yet very fresh, with fine bubbles, a creamy texture and a distinctly saline finish.
The wine is produced from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier grown on Roederer’s organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards in Cumières. With no dosage added after disgorgement, the balance depends entirely on the ripeness of the fruit, acidity and natural texture of the wine.
I like the contrast here between generous fruit and a very dry, precise finish. The 2018 vintage gives the wine enough richness to support the zero-dosage style, while the salinity and freshness keep it focused and particularly interesting at the table.
Food Pairing: Pair with tuna tartare, salmon sashimi, langoustines, lobster, grilled red mullet, duck breast, or dishes with subtle spice.
Serve around 48–52°F.
