Nicolas Potel Santenay Premier Cru Clos Rousseau 2017 is a mature Pinot Noir from one of the southernmost Premier Cru vineyards of the Côte de Beaune.
Black cherry and ripe red berries lead the aromatic profile, followed by violet, dried herbs, subtle spice and earthy notes that have developed with bottle age. The palate has the naturally firm structure associated with Clos Rousseau, but several years of maturation have softened the tannins and brought the fruit and savory elements into greater harmony.
Santenay often delivers a more robust expression of Pinot Noir than neighboring villages such as Volnay, and Clos Rousseau is particularly known for wines with depth, structure and good aging potential. The 2017 now combines that underlying power with the complexity of a Burgundy beginning to show maturity.
Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, pork tenderloin, veal, roast chicken, mushrooms, game birds, or semi-aged cheeses.
Serve around 58–61°F. Stand the bottle upright before opening if sediment is present, and avoid a long decant; 20–30 minutes in the glass or a gentle short decant should be sufficient.
