Champagne Chartogne-Taillet Cuvée Sainte Anne Extra Brut is a grower Champagne from Merfy, bringing together Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier from several parcels to express the character of the village rather than a single vineyard.
Pear, yellow apple and citrus are joined by white flowers, chamomile, raw almond and subtle brioche notes. The palate is textured and energetic, with fine bubbles, fresh acidity and a distinctly chalky, saline character that carries through the long finish.
Fermentation and aging in barrel add depth without making the wine feel overtly oaky, while the low dosage keeps the finish dry and precise. The combination of different parcels and reserve wines gives Sainte Anne more complexity than its position as the estate’s introductory cuvée might suggest.
I like this Champagne because it combines generosity with a very clear mineral identity. There is enough texture and fruit to make it immediately appealing, but the salinity and fine structure make it particularly interesting at the table.
Food Pairing: Pair with oysters, scallops, crab, sushi, roast chicken, fried seafood, mushroom dishes, or aged Comté.
Serve around 48–52°F.
