The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with polished tannins, fresh acidity and layers of dark fruit carrying through to a long, precise finish.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe 2023 is particularly interesting because it marks the first Insignia vintage to include fruit from the Backus Vineyard. Aging was also slightly shorter than in previous years, with a more restrained approach to oak designed to preserve the freshness and energy of the vintage.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor me, the strength of the 2023 is the balance between power and definition. There is plenty of Napa concentration, but the freshness, fine tannins and graphite character keep the wine focused rather than heavy.
