2016 was an excellent vintage in Montalcino, and Valdicava’s Brunello is a great example of it. Very perfumed on the nose, with complex notes of ripe red cherries, violets, black tea, fresh green herbs, and leather. Powerful on the palate with a vivid acidity and high, yet elegant tannins.
The label has a colorful version of Saint Michael the Archangel, the leader of the Army of God and the leader of Heaven’s forces in their triumph over the powers of hell.
Drink now (decant for 2 hours at least) or age for another 15 years. Pair it with a T-bone steak or pappardelle al ragu.
